Featuring Black Lab

Black Lab is in its second incarnation. Between 1997 and 2004, Paul Durham fronted the first incarnation to critical acclaim and success – until their label, and the band fell apart.

When Durham moved to Los Angeles he had little more than his guitars and some songs. He bought a computer, taught himself how to use it and began creating demos with his own sound that built around his voice.

The demos eventually scored him an album deal with label Epic, which enabled an upgrade of his ‘studio’ to “a giant Pro Tools system”. Daunted by this, Durham hired Andy Ellis to help him set it up.

We’re sitting around waiting for the computer to reboot and this guy picks up my guitar, without asking. I was cringing inside, but it turned out he was great. I wanted to sing over the top of everything he played. Pretty soon, we were writing and recording together.

Durham had found his missing link and the new Black Lab was born. However Epic decided not to release the album so the band decided to release it themselves. See The Sun was released in 2005 and found many fans through the then new and burgeoning new media movement.
